What are you even waiting for??<\/p>\n<p><strong>For today\u2019s post, I\u2019m sharing some workouts that you can do with kids.<\/strong> Until COVID hit, I very rarely worked out with the kids around. I was typically teaching classes and doing my own thing at the gym while they were at school. (Over the weekend, I\u2019d take an off day and then hit up some type of class.) When the world shut down and we were home for months, they definitely started to see me work out. I realized that by having them around, I was setting an example for them in multiple ways. They were able to see that I prioritized moving my body each day, they were able to see that my workouts affected my mood and wellbeing (I feel great and energized after a workout), and sometimes, they\u2019d even join in the fun.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important for me to lead by example that moving your body is a good thing. It\u2019s fun, and it helps to keep you healthy and active for the long haul. There are so many benefits to working out with kids: it can help moms squeeze in exercise time while keeping the kids busy, it can tire them out for naptime or bedtime, it\u2019s a fun and different want to way bond with the kids, and it\u2019s a great way to teach the importance of health and fitness at a young age.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessista.com\/?attachment_id=157738\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-157738\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-157738\" src=\"http:\/\/bestratefinders.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/15-workouts-you-can-do-with-your-kids-683x1024-1.jpg\" data-fslightbox=\"gallery1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In today\u2019s post, I\u2019m sharing some of my favorite workouts to do with kids! If you have any resources your kids love, please spread the word in the comments section.<\/p>\n<h2>15 workouts you can do with kids<\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Kw7gIUlxaL4&amp;t=39s\">Indoor scavenger hunt<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>This is one that Liv\u2019s PE teacher sent while the kids were home from school. He really did an awesome job of choosing YouTube workouts for the kids that kept them engaged and enjoying themselves. We\u2019ve come back to this one and similar ones a few times.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/CosmicKidsYoga\">Cosmic Yoga<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Cosmic Yoga is just a treasure. If you haven\u2019t tried this yet with your kids, the workouts are so creative and fun. It\u2019s a nice way to introduce yoga at a young age, and each video has a theme. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R-BS87NTV5I\">Try the Harry Potter one!<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Peloton Family<\/h3>\n<p>The Peloton Family workouts incorporate strength, cardio, yoga elements, and can help improve motor skills, coordination and balance. You do need to have the paid app to access the classes, but I feel like it\u2019s an excellent complement to our Peloton membership.<\/p>\n<h3>Dance party in the living room<\/h3>\n<p>Workouts, especially with kids, don\u2019t have to be *official* workouts. A dance party in the living room is a great way to get in some movement, shake out some sillies, and bond together. (I also relish in this opportunity to show them my sweet dance moves lololol.) Our kids LOVE Story Pirates if you haven\u2019t checked them out. The songs are catchy, witty, and imaginative. Also, <em>Encanto<\/em>\u00a0soundtrack is always a good way to go.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessista.com\/?attachment_id=157739\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-157739\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-157739\" src=\"http:\/\/bestratefinders.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/animal-workout-609x1024-1.jpg\" data-fslightbox=\"gallery1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Animal Workout<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bear crawls:<\/span>\u00a0Come into a beast position on all fours, with hands under your shoulders, knees under your hips, and hover your knees off the floor. Walk forwards and backwards, side to side. Make sure to breathe.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mountain climbers:<\/span>\u00a0Get in plank position with your wrists under your shoulders. Bring one knee\u00a0towards the elbow on the same side. Move back to plank and switch to the\u00a0opposite side. For more of a challenge, move as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Frog jumps:<\/span>\u00a0Start in plie squat position. Bring your hands down to touch the floor (keep your chest up). Jump up, and land, touching the floor.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Crab walk:<\/span>\u00a0Have a seat and put your hands behind your hips. Lift your hips off the ground as you *walk* forwards and backwards, like a crab.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cheetah run:<\/span>\u00a0Run in place with high knees as fast as you can.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Inchworm:<\/span>\u00a0Walk your hands out to a plank position (spine long, core engaged) and then walk your hands back to your feet and reach up overhead.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Kangaroo hops:<\/span>\u00a0Hop side to side with bent knees and hands like you\u2019re a kangaroo \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Beast to plank:<\/span>\u00a0Come into a beast position on all fours, with hands under your shoulders, knees under your hips, and hover your knees off the floor. Exhale to press your heels back so that you\u2019re in a plank position. Inhale to bend your knees and come back into beast.<\/p>\n<p>Complete each exercise for 45 seconds, with a 15 second break between moves. If this isn\u2019t something you normally do (aka most of us), it\u2019s very silly and fun. Make sure to breathe and bend your knees and arms.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Zombie walks:<\/span>\u00a0Take alternating steps with straight legs and *chop* your opposite hand to your ankle. Use your core as you lift your legs and exhale on the way up.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Power kicks:<\/span>\u00a0Use your core to lift your leg and flex your foot to press it away from you. Keep your chest lifted and torso upright as you lunge. Finish on one side before switching to the other side.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Shuffle and duck:<\/span>\u00a0Quick shuffles to the side and then duck down. Use your core to help you. The shuffles can be as quick as you like!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Punches:<\/span>\u00a0Come into a low plie squat and punch diagonal up and down on one side. Switch to the opposite side.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Star jacks:<\/span>\u00a0If you do basic jumping jacks, make sure that your knees are not caving in as\u00a0you walk or jump out and in. If you need to, move more slowly until you feel\u00a0comfortable with form. For an advanced version, try air jacks, only touching\u00a0the floor when the feet come together and springing back up.<\/p>\n<p>Complete each exercise for 45 seconds, with a 15 second break between moves. Complete up to 3 total rounds.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a quick video demo of the moves! We had a little too much fun putting this together. There are so many fun options but their faves are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Y9LLfv7yauM\">this one<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=d_GNRDic17E\">this one<\/a>. Warning that the songs are very catchy and will be stuck in your head for days.<\/p>\n<h3>Just Dance<\/h3>\n<p>The girls will often do Just Dance for fun. They used to do the free videos on YouTube (and had no clue they weren\u2019t actually earning points), and now that we have an Nintendo Switch, they\u2019ll play Just Dance on the Switch. They have popular top 40s type songs, Disney songs, classic faves, and even holiday-themed songs. Here are a few of their favorites: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9pT1jg7UYZ4\">Prince Ali<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RYgIVc5Jvjg\">Ghostbusters<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R91TENdjt2w\">Starships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cSSzY-fIFGU\">Spiderman workout<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VHoq4ip7UgU\">Superhero Kids Workout<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=m9ST61u3gnU\">The Floor is Lava!!<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=C5Yt8pzbATo\">Disney Yoga Freeze Dance Break<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Ok so this isn\u2019t *real* Disney, but it totally does the trick. They did this one the other night and were cracking up the whole time. They loved it.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=326GR2A7q-s\">Kid-friendly HIIT Workout<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitnessblender.com\/videos\/fitness-blender-kids-workout-25-minute-fun-workout-for-kids-at-home\">Fun Workout for Kids At Home<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019m a huge fan of Fitness Blender. They do a great job producing straightforward workout videos that are easy to follow. This is a fun workout with \u201cred light, green light,\u201d \u201cjump or drop\u201d and freestyle.
