After finishing in the top five in 2022, the Canadian athlete will now be looking to topple two-time reigning Men&#8217;s Individual champion (2021-2022) <a data-lasso-id=\"295292\" href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/justin-medeiros-home-gym-tour-crossfit-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Justin Medeiros<\/a> for the crown. Before officially earning his berth in the 2023 iteration of the Games, Adler surged in 2023 by winning the Men&#8217;s CrossFit Open and the <a data-lasso-id=\"295293\" href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/2023-crossfit-north-american-east-semifinal-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 North America East Semifinal<\/a>. He explained that this part of his training process was looser than it had been in the past. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"pre-workout-regimen\">Pre-Workout Regimen<\/h2>\n<p>Adler starts his day accordingly with some dynamic stretches. The athlete utilizes a wall, the floor, and a small ball to ease into the demands of his day&#8217;s workout. The main focus was getting his <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/best-back-workouts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"295300\">back<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/best-shoulder-workouts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"295301\">shoulders<\/a> prepared. <\/p>\n<p>Adler diagrammed his <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/best-bodybuilding-supplements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296602\">supplement stack<\/a>, which starts with a <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/best-pre-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296603\">pre-workout energy drink<\/a> in the mornings. He then takes a <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/best-bcaa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296604\">BCAA<\/a> powder in the afternoons, which offers electrolytes\u00a0and\u00a0amino acids\u00a0for performance and post-workout recovery.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/what-does-pre-workout-do\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296605\">Citrulline<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0beta-alanine\u00a0are his final components. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"full-training-day\">Full Training Day<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an overview of Adler&#8217;s training program featured in the video.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"speed-bike-intervals\">Speed Bike Intervals<\/h3>\n<p>Adler performs two timed interval rounds after warming up for about 20 minutes on a <a data-lasso-id=\"295302\" href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/air-bike-workouts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stationary bike<\/a>. The intervals had times ranging from two to four minutes with goals of achieving between 150 and 400 watts. Adler&#8217;s average watts over 40 minutes was 292. Adler recorded a time of 2:22 on his final round. Every athlete achieved all 45 muscle-ups. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"12-minute-emom\">12-Minute EMOM<\/h3>\n<p>Adler explained that this third workout has the aim of beginning one round of exercises &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/emom-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296606\">every minute on the minute<\/a>.&#8221; That meant he goes through his movements beginning at the top of a minute and uses whatever time is left over as rest:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Parallel Bar Traverse<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0Three reps<\/li>\n<li><strong>Double-Under Crossovers<\/strong> \u2014 15-20 reps<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ski Erg<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014\u00a060 seconds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Adler explained his traversing technique \u2014 trying to shift as much of his weight as possible to each supporting arm before shimmying along the parallel bars. The double-under crossovers was a challenging event which cost many competitors, including five-time champion <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/tia-clair-toomey-snatch-practice-post-pregnancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296607\">Tia-Clair Toomey<\/a>, valuable points when it debuted at the <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/2022-crossfit-games-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296608\">2022 CrossFit Games<\/a>. The movement requires athletes to use stamina, coordination, and fast-twitch movements to complete all repetitions without stumbling. The Ski Erg is a mimic of upper body skiing movements, which requires <a data-lasso-id=\"295307\" href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/lat-pulldown-vs-pull-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lats<\/a> and overall upper-body strength. <\/p>\n<p>After the 12 minutes needed for the third workout, the group left for an extended break and breakfast. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"traditional-weightlifting\">Traditional Weightlifting<\/h3>\n<p>Adler warmed up with 20 box jumps before lifting weights post-breakfast. He then rolled through box speed squats using a safety squat bar and <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/best-resistance-bands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296609\">resistance bands<\/a> for nine sets of three reps. The idea was to improve dynamic movement instead of necessarily focusing on weight or technique. To further combine strength and cardio training, a set was performed 30 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Afterward, Adler performed speed deadlifts, this time centering on how fast he could complete his pulls at lighter loads for another nine sets of three. He would close the day&#8217;s overall workout routine with &#8220;accessory&#8221; movements, like <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingmuscle.com\/deadlift-variations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"296610\">single-leg Romanian deadlifts<\/a> and core training. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"sbi-embed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media sbi-embed\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Csm90JLx5B8\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; He spent a few minutes in the steam room and a few minutes with a cold plunge. Part of the aim was to reduce inflammation in the knees and address heart rate variability (a measure of overall recovery).<\/p>\n<p>Adler&#8217;s CrossFit Games journey is not complete.
