Hi friends! How\u2019s the week going? We\u2019re off on a little staycation – check out my IG stories<\/a> for pics and adventures! – but for today\u2019s post, I thought I\u2019d share some fun activities to do with the kids while they\u2019re home for Christmas break.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Insert MAJOR sigh of relief and all the cheer for Christmas break. I love having the kiddos home, and especially love zero alarms (except for the days I have to teach), slow mornings, and seeing where the day takes us. Our weeks are pretty busy around here between school, gymnastics and dance team, horse lessons, and soccer, so having a couple of weeks off lovely. (Not months off. I\u2019m not putting that out into the universe.)<\/p>\n

While I still have to work while the kiddos are home, I\u2019ve been trying to pre-write as much as possible and book calls into time blocks so we can have some fun adventures while they\u2019re home. I thought I\u2019d share some of my top ideas here and would love to hear what you\u2019re doing with the fam this winter break!<\/p>\n

Winter Break Activities with Kids<\/h2>\n

Please keep in mind that these are just ideas and a brainstorming list, and there\u2019s no way we\u2019ll do all or most of the things here. I\u2019m really most excited about just CHILLING, but it will be great to have the lists on the afternoons when we\u2019re looking for something to do!<\/p>\n

Ideas for home:<\/h3>\n

Camping in the living room<\/h4>\n

This was a huge hit when the pandemic first hit, and a way for us to distinguish the weekend from all of the other days that blended together. We\u2019d roast s\u2019mores, watch a movie, and sleep in a tent downstairs. I learned very quickly that I hate air mattresses lol but it was worth it for the memories for the kiddos.<\/p>\n

Make slime<\/a><\/h4>\n

This is our go-to recipe and you can add glitter to the mixture for a sparkly snow slime<\/p>\n

Bake something<\/h4>\n

We rarely have time to bake while the kids are in school, so this is a special opportunity to bake together<\/p>\n

Simple In-home Science Experiments<\/h4>\n

Did you know that learning can be as entertaining as it is enlightening? With a touch of scientific flair, you and your little ones can embark on a journey through the wonderful world of winter. From creating frost on a can to making your own snow, there are countless experiments that will make their eyes sparkle brighter than a starlit winter sky. Not only will these activities engage their curious minds, but they will also provide an opportunity for you to bond with your children and share some memorable moments together. So, gather your lab coats and safety goggles \u2013 it’s time for some educational fun!<\/p>\n

Teach them a recipe<\/h4>\n

This is one of my goals for this Christmas break! We have a gas stove, so I\u2019m not quite comfortable with them using it yet, but I want to teach them how to make eggs and pancakes on our large griddle<\/a>. It\u2019s electric, so it will be perfect for them to make breakfast (with supervision, of course).<\/p>\n

Go on a scavenger hunt<\/h4>\n

While it is a bit chilly, we still bundle up and take walks with Maisey each day. Create a scavenger hunt list before you head out.<\/p>\n

Hike<\/h4>\n

You’re absolutely right – nestled amidst this magnificent desert landscape are some truly breathtaking trails that transform into a winter wonderland during this fun season. Picture this: a crisp afternoon, the air tingling with just the right amount of chill, and you and the gang embarking on an adventure to explore one of these beautiful trails. The sight of the desert adorned with a sprinkle of winter magic is a sight to behold! As you hike along the scenic paths, take a moment to appreciate the stunning views, the serenity of nature, and the joy of spending time together. It’s the perfect way to combine a fun winter activity with a touch of exploration.<\/p>\n

Read a book and watch the movie<\/h4>\n

Liv is finishing the book Wonder<\/em>, so I\u2019m excited to watch it with the kids one of these nights. I think I may have the perfect indoor activity to accompany it. Why not gather some family friends and teach your children some important lessons about kindness and empathy while enjoying a movie night? Cozy up on the couch, grab some blankets and snacks, and witness the wonder of the story come to life on the screen. It’s a perfect opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones while engaging in an enriching activity. Plus, who doesn’t love a heartwarming tale that inspires us to be our best selves?<\/p>\n

Let them host a talent show, or have a dance party<\/h4>\n

This is one of my go-tos when I need to get some chores done \u2014 I turn on some music and the girls dance and play while I clean<\/p>\n

Karaoke<\/h4>\n

We have this bluetooth mic<\/a> and the girls looooove it.<\/p>\n

Play a board game or card game<\/h4>\n

Zingo<\/a>, Guess Who<\/a>, Old Maid<\/a>, and Uno<\/a> are all favorites.<\/p>\n

Make a fort<\/h4>\n

Snow Ball Fights<\/h4>\n

Ah, the magic of winter! When the world transforms into a snowy wonderland and kids come home from school with an extra pep in their step. And what better way to embrace the chilly weather than with a good old-fashioned snowball fight? Gather the family and friends, bundle up in warm layers, and let the snowballs fly! It’s a perfect time for fun and to teach children about teamwork and friendly competition. Just be prepared to dodge incoming snowballs and build your very own fortress of snow. Who says you can’t have a blast while getting a little exercise too?<\/p>\n

Work on a puzzle<\/h4>\n

Create a year-end photo album<\/h4>\n

I\u2019m really trying to get better about this, so this post is my motivation to do it.<\/p>\n

Create Snow Globe<\/h4>\n

Time to unleash your inner artist and bring some winter magic into your home! Get creative with your kids and design your very own snow globe. Start by finding the perfect-sized jar or container, then let your imaginations run wild. Decorate the inside with miniature figures, a sprinkle of glittering snow, and perhaps even a tiny Christmas tree. The possibilities are endless! Not only will this activity keep the little ones entertained, but it will also provide a cozy indoor activity during those brisk winter days. And the best part? You’ll have a delightful decoration to cherish long after the snow has melted.<\/p>\n

Take them to spend their holiday gift cards at Target or the mall<\/h4>\n

The arcade<\/h4>\n

Our kids LOVE the mall arcade and we always have a blast playing games for a bit<\/p>\n

Take a short road trip or staycation<\/h4>\n

We\u2019re fortunate that Mt. Lemmon is only an hour away, so we can see some pine trees and snow! Imagine the thrill on your children’s faces as they experience the wonder of nature up close. This is truly a bucket list item that cannot be missed! Not only will you have the opportunity to teach your little ones about the beauty of our natural world, but you’ll also create memories that will last a lifetime. So, grab your winter gear and prepare for a day filled with snowy escapades and laughter. Trust me, this is an experience that will enrich the hearts and minds of your children, and leave you with a sense of awe and appreciation for the magic of our world.<\/p>\n
